Stately elegance of a simplicity that allows the most modern mind to relax, this room is spacious and sedate, with rich red and subtle gold. East Coast light streams through lace valanced, six-foot tall windows, across the planked floor to where the room quiets with the hush of a tapestry carpet.
A Federal style sofa, an Eastlake chair, and an arm chair in the well-lit reading nook give you choices for private relaxation. Discreet extra lighting can gently flood the vanity corner to meet the most impeccable grooming needs.
In tribute to Captain Blaikie, framed prints of sailing vessels lend a sedate aura of gentlemanly life to the room. This most spacious and formal of our guest rooms is just a few steps across the hall from the main bath.
The Blue Room, named for the damask-striped coverlet atop the pillow-top mattress–as well as for its former collection of layered paint and mixed wallpapers - offers the extra luxury, privacy and convenience of an in-room pedestal sink.
The dressing area has its own lighting, with a harp-framed mirror in the recessed wall. The carved headboard, solid blanket chest and bold, tasseled window valences give this room a comfortable feeling of casual elegance and familiar heritage.
This spacious room also features a fainting couch for modern sitting in the ample bay windows, and many framed pictures from the height of the Victorian Era, including a portrait of Princess Mary, (to be Grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II) resplendent in the fine laces of her time.
With Twinned Sleigh Beds for traveling companions and the original rosewood shutters on the windows, the Green Room is a perfect place to relax and to refresh yourself. A grand tall armoire and a dresser with a hidden mirror in the sectioned top drawer are part of the distinct furnishings of this room.
Richly floral walls and carpet show how Victorian stylings can give a sense of grandeur to even a modest sized room. Reproductions of period style wrought-iron and blown-glass table lamps on the shared night-table enhance the simple charm of this friendly room. Of course, one may simply enjoy the pastoral village views...
Is named for the palest of yellows in the duvet and shams echo and blend with the soft pinks in the wallpaper, which is anchored by the deep dusty rose in the Chinese style rug. A turned and carved dark wood bedstead stands kitty-corner in the gently angled room, as a subtle reminder of the external grandeur of the house.
The original rosewood shutters and two Eastlake chairs give a private feel to the room while offering intimate conversation for two. Discreetly hosting the only actual closet, this delicate room with its sit-down dressing table feels quite at home with just a single guest, but is spacious enough to accomodate two in luxury. We are also pleased to offer a feather – free and low-allergen environment in the Yellow Room.
